Who Should Opt For PRP Therapy?

Over the last decade, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy has received a lot of coverage, partly because Tiger Woods and other famous elite athletes have opted for it. Golf has become almost synonymous with Woods, and at one point, it seemed that the icon was thoroughly unbeatable.

However, an injury to his ACL in 2008 left the star unsure of how to proceed. After recommendations from his doctors, he decided to take a chance on PRP. The results were spectacular, as he moved on to play his best after the procedure.

PRP therapy has become popular among athletes, but that doesn’t mean it can’t help other people out too.

Here’s who can benefit from PRP treatment.

1. Older people

Data shows that 10 percent of individuals who get surgery are 65 and above. Unsurprisingly, the chances of requiring surgery increase with age, but so does the risk that accompanies it.

Surgical procedures are often painful and require time for rehabilitation. Moreover, surgery affects mental health too.

The downtime required after surgery keeps individuals from carrying out routine tasks and engaging in various activities. This can lead to loss of self-confidence, and even depression—especially among those over 60 years of age.

2. Athletes

Most elite athletes who suffer from sports injuries can’t afford to take four to six months off for rehabilitation. The professional sports scene is extremely competitive, and to stay on top, athletes have to work day and night.

Surgery isn’t an option because it necessitates downtime and rest. Most major surgical procedures are followed by months of physical therapy and exercise. PRP therapy offers an alternative option to athletes because it’s minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime. That is the primary reason why so many big athletes such as Kobe Bryant and Rafael Nadal opted for PRP therapy before making successful comebacks.

3. Individuals experiencing chronic pain

PRP therapy is also recommended to those people who’re experiencing frequent and excessive pain in their bodies. Those with joint conditions such as osteoarthritis can also benefit from this treatment.

PRP therapy takes a concentrate of healing factors from your own blood and injects them into the target area. This boosts the presence of collagen and repairs damaged tissues at an accelerated pace. It’s a mechanism that focuses on the root of the problem rather than just alleviating pain temporarily—as is the case with cortisone injections and pain medication. PRP is a much more effective long-term solution for pain management.

If you’re experiencing frequent pain in your body, it’s best to consult a doctor before moving forward. I thought I was going to have to deal with plantar fasciitis for the rest of my life. I had done all the recommended steps from orthotics, icing, stretching, massage…nothing worked. I saw Jason. He said 5 treatments with shockwave therapy should significantly improve the problem. I said no way. In a way, I was right-it took 6 treatments but I’m pain free. Amazing. Great service and a product that works.
Thank you to Dr. Nanda and his great team of specialist for taking care me. Very friendly and knowledgable!
Here is what I say about my shock treatments. I have had chronic back pain for over 40 years. Nothing has worked for me and I have tried many, many types of back treatments. Nothing worked. I was going to go for laser spine surgery. Divergent was going to be my last “try” before laser surgery. I went in with absolutely NO expectations. I had one treatment, walked out thinking “okay, my back doesn’t hurt but that won’t last.” Well guess what? It works!!!! I have had 5 treatments since May, 2017 and I have no back pain. None! Without Divergent and Dr. Jason, my life would still be a painful one. Jason, you have saved me. Anyone with any pain needs to go to Divergent. With many thanks to all of you.
I have been suffering with Plantar Fasciitis in both of my feet for over a year now and the pain was just too unbearable to deal with. I did all the recommended stretching, icing and other treatments that just didn’t help. So, I said enough is enough as I deserve to feel better than this and made the appointment at Divergent Health Care.
