DNA Testing: FAQs

DNA Testing: FAQs

Make An Appointment

Genetic testing is the use of laboratory equipment to arrival at the chromosomal makeup you inherited from your parents.

While DNA testing is shown in popular media to primarily determine one’s parentage or at crime scenes, it goes well beyond that.

DNA testing is used to diagnose diseases and identify disease carrier genes as well. We’ve compiled a list of questions that are often asked in relation to DNA testing, to clarify any concerns or misconceptions you may have.

What can a DNA test tell me?

DNA tests are used to diagnose diseases, or to identify gene changes that may be the reason for a disease that’s already been diagnosed.

Many treatment centers use DNA testing as a way for doctors to determine the severity of a disease, as well as to employ treatment options that are most suited to the individual’s DNA.

More and more people have started using DNA testing before having children to determine whether they’re carriers for diseases that could be passed on to their children.

How many different kinds of DNA tests are there?

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but covers most types of DNA testing:

  • Diagnostic testing is used to determine diseases with precision. These tests are used by doctors to prescribe medication or propose a treatment plan.
  • Predictive testing is used to determine the predisposition of a person to contract a certain illness. These could help inform lifestyle changes and habits that could improve your health.
  • Carrier testing is used to determine whether one is a carrier for certain diseases. Carriers often show no symptoms of the disease themselves, but may pass it on to their offspring.
  • Prenatal testing is used to determine whether a fetus has any defects or identifiable diseases during pregnancy. They can then be used to develop a treatment plan.
  • Pharmacogenomic testing is used to determine how a patient’s body will respond to certain medications, in order to account for all possible undesirable side effects.

What is the process for a DNA test?

DNA paternity tests are simple; you can even order a test kit online so you can take the test at home. All you’ll need is a cheek swab from the alleged father and child, after which you’ll send the samples to us. Results take around 3 to 5 days, but you could get the results sooner for an additional fee.

If you’re interested in other kinds of genetic testing, our team of experts will recommend a test that’s most suited to your needs. We guarantee complete privacy, and our DNA tests can be used as preventative measures against diseases or as legal proof.

I thought I was going to have to deal with plantar fasciitis for the rest of my life. I had done all the recommended steps from orthotics, icing, stretching, massage…nothing worked. I saw Jason. He said 5 treatments with shockwave therapy should significantly improve the problem. I said no way. In a way, I was right-it took 6 treatments but I’m pain free. Amazing. Great service and a product that works.
Thank you to Dr. Nanda and his great team of specialist for taking care me. Very friendly and knowledgable!
Here is what I say about my shock treatments. I have had chronic back pain for over 40 years. Nothing has worked for me and I have tried many, many types of back treatments. Nothing worked. I was going to go for laser spine surgery. Divergent was going to be my last “try” before laser surgery. I went in with absolutely NO expectations. I had one treatment, walked out thinking “okay, my back doesn’t hurt but that won’t last.” Well guess what? It works!!!! I have had 5 treatments since May, 2017 and I have no back pain. None! Without Divergent and Dr. Jason, my life would still be a painful one. Jason, you have saved me. Anyone with any pain needs to go to Divergent. With many thanks to all of you.
I have been suffering with Plantar Fasciitis in both of my feet for over a year now and the pain was just too unbearable to deal with. I did all the recommended stretching, icing and other treatments that just didn’t help. So, I said enough is enough as I deserve to feel better than this and made the appointment at Divergent Health Care.
